So you know how J.Crew are all over this layering thing at the moment? All that pairing your shirt with a vest and then throwing on another layer just because you can, but still not looking quite like a Michelin man… Well it looks like it’s not just for us gals.

With the Fall 13 collection – which was previewed in London at the J.Crew pop up event a few weeks ago, and prior to this weekend’s London Collections: Men, Ms Jenna Lyons was also advocating bundling on the layers for the guys.

So here’s a heads up on what to expect for Fall, which might also help you out on the ideas front with the (always tricky) Father’s day gifting this weekend.

First up, ensure you over egg the pudding on the preppy vibe. Blokes – don’t just drag out that same old tie and button down shirt combo next Monday morning. Think chambray jacket for the warmer months or tweed jacket for a touch of old school cool come Fall. Add a scarf, a  pocket square and perhaps a tie clip if you’re feeling super snappy.

For office dress down days why not work your old college sweatshirt into the scene. Adopt the jacket from your favourite Italian suit. Add a barbour or waxed jacket for that ‘I’ve just got back from a weekend on my country estate’ kind of feel, and the Monday morning back to work blues will be a thing of the past.

Once the winter chills kick in, turn your layering thoughts to woolly pullies paired with collegiate scarfs and fur trimmed parkas to keep the chillblains in check. Or tartan check tailored jackets paired with denim shirts and paisley ties for a mash up of on trend looks.
