New York Fashion Week…Reem Acra Spring 2014

Reem Acra is the queen of the bridal gown and normally her shows are full on bride-to-be drooling fodder, or failing that Red Carpet no brainers. However, this show was totally different. This was Reem having  fun and reminiscing about our collective pasts when we were younger, kind of innocent and ready for anything.

NYC in the late 70s/early 80s.  Think Studio 54, the Red Parrot, Elephas…..Pat Cleveland, Patricia Field, Cher….big flouncy hair, shiny, glittery clothes and unstable strappy shoes that necessitated the arm of a gentleman.  Reem incorporated lots of silver and coppery shimmer, oranges and of course, the ubiquitous NYC color of choice, black.

The music for the show included Brian Ferry’s “Don’t Stop the Dance” and When in Rome’s “The Promise” which set the tone and the mood for this retro presentation. Between the music and the vibe, I half expected the models to walk right off the runway and straight to the nearest club….and I was ready to follow them.

The appreciative audience included Iris Apfel, Robert Verdi and a gaggle of reality housewives…
